Taiwan based chipset manufacturer, MediaTek has just announced its new octa-core processor based on recently announced ARM’s Cortex A17 architecture.
MT6595 is the upcoming octa-core processor by MediaTek that is claimed to be the world’s first 4G LTE octa-core processor based on Cortex A17 architecture. MediaTek said that MT6595 is meant for the premium devices, competing directly against QualComm’s Snapdragon 800 and 805.
The upcoming MT6595 features eight cores: four A17 cores running at 2.2-2.5 GHz and four A7 cores running at 1.7GHz. It will also be equipped with Rogue PowerVR Series 6 GPU and an integrated H.264 Ultra HD decoder for 4K/UHD content.
MT6595 will be using ARM’s big.LITTLE technology and Heterogeneous Multi-Processing that will allow all eight cores to be used simultaneously for heavy tasks or use one or two cores for basic tasks.
